This year I'm skipping the Toronto Film Festival for the first time in some years, which is just fine with me. While there are some movies I would have liked to have seen (chiefly A Serious Man, Men Who Stare at Goats and Broken Embraces), it's definitely not my favorite of festivals and the lineup as whole didn't knock me over this year - not...

Have a good trip. Also it wasn't November I was worried about, it was October. But I guess I don't have to worry as much anymore. Except for the driving, finding a place to live, and all the logistics I haven't considered yet.

So happy to see you back around these parts. smile

Funny thing happened the other day. I was heading over a friend's place to show him in-progress previews of a couple recent co-creations I've been working on - a segment from the new film I'm producing, and a freshly bottled sample of the homebrew _margot_ and I just brewed together. And I realized: I'm much more nervous and curious about what he was going to...

You're too kind, sir.

And it would take drinking jet fuel to make me blind at this point.

Not professionally is the way to go... wink

I can only think of that guy as a cop. If I saw him in plain clothes, I would assume he was undercover.

Not a hell of a whole lot to blog about right now. Life, she is pretty damn good. Had a great trip up to San Francisco and Santa Rosa this week. It's sadly come to an end, but Real Life minus the travels happens to be pretty damn good too.

Image heavy documentation of the trip below, although I should say it's all of the...

Thanks for all of the pictures, that was a chunk of good beer porn if I've ever seen it ♥

Entirely impractical idea, but I think I'm going to have to head down to San Marcos tomorrow morning for the Lost Abbey brewery Christmas in July beer release.

Bad idea because: a) driving 200 miles the day before I have another 450 mile drive ahead of me can't be smart, 2) dropping cash on multiple $30 bottles of beer doesn't make my wallet feel...

My timing is horrible, every time I head north, the folks up there head south!

Enjoy your brewery party!

I saw Tokyo! a few months ago here at the local art house theater.

Three short films, the first story dealing with finding happiness in relationships, the second going over my head a bit, as I did not understand the significance of Nanking during the war, and the third another nice film about being too afraid to live life.

I knew I'd need to read up on Nanking, as it was a central theme in the second film, but I had gone to the last showing in the area.

I don't visit movie houses too much anymore, especially not for the mindless fluff that Hollywood puts out these days, but have no problems seeing films I enjoy repeatedly, especially the ones with smaller releases.

Have a great weekend!

tatertot:
I'd gather you love driving...

PS I love the beer smile

The only thing that keeps this blog post from falling into the category of shameless self-promotion is that I do indeed feel some shame for plugging my wares so blatantly. But here goes:

For anyone around Southern California, Paris je t'aime, a movie I Executive Produced a few years ago, will be playing at the New Beverly Cinema on the 24th and 25th of...

If ever you find yourself needing far too much inspiration:

joker_:
Almost enough, but not quite there. Alas, I just needed that bit from Remember the Titans to put me over the top with inspiration and it wasn't there!

Yeah, I'm going low key BBQ at home today. Interspersed with working on various things.
_margot_:
ha! it isnt any less funny.

If you're an Angeleno, you're probably familiar with Good Day LA; if not, Good Day is the vacuous, majestically amateurish morning talk show that, among its other crimes, launched the career of Jillian Barberie.

It is fantastically awful, insipid on a moment-to-moment basis in the way that only a program so of Los Angeles can be. In the mornings, I torture _margot_, who has...

Back from seeing some friends and family this past week in Kansas City. Boo-urns to 120 degree heat index. I am in no way one of those people who lives in Los Angeles but complains about "the same weather" and "no seasons!" all the time. Fuck that. Of all the craptastic things about this city, I'm not going to pick on having perfect weather all...

i'm so jealous of you and your access to good beer. my choices are extremely limited; one of the only chinese beers that has more than 2% and consequently what i've been drinking is called blue power... apparently beer made by smurf supremacists.

It's been an exceedingly stressful few days lately. I wish I could be more descriptive or insightful than that, but all there really is to it is that there's a whole mess of general free-floating anxiety that really has no reason to be there at all. I don't feel like my head has been on my side recently.

The good news is that I seem...

i know the feeling. both the free-floating anxiety feeling and the i-could-do-without-this-anxiety-but-i-suddenly-realize-that-it-doesn't-occur-as-often-anymore-and-for-that-i'm-thankful feeling. yup.

so.. china. when was the last time we caught up? i can't remember. it's been a while. so, uh, i moved to australia with lemonkid. we were struggling with the job situation there... he mentioned this to one of his facebook poker buddies, who is teaching english in china... this friend mentioned that the school he works at was looking for new teachers... and, well, in less than a month later, here we were. it just kind of happened. and so far, so good, though we haven't had much of a chance to travel around much besides hong kong.

so... yeah. what's new with you?

p.s. your presence is missed when you go on hiatus.

Same here. I've seen basically every film Bogart has been in, and it's probably my favorite film of his. Doesn't get nearly enough recognition. That and High Sierra.

Yay for sanity, BTW.
