Swapping it out every time for testing sounds like quite the hassle, and probably finding a place that would "pass" something non compliant might be hard, if Cali is like around here places that get caught cheating the system get a $10k fine per infraction. Wish I could be more help, good luck. I guess that's why I prefer antiques like my car, I can run straight pipes if I want legally.
