Had a great little BBQ in our building's backyard with 3 of my siblings plus friends. Girl AC made awesome ribs which were gone in a flash. There was plenty more ribs, wings, burgers & stuff from other folks though.

When my bro F (they're actually my half brothers & sisters by my dad) said wanna go to a party in Soho I thought AC wouldn't be up for it but she and her friends were game so we went.



A bit of post-party hanging out on the Soho street. It was especially fun because AC, her friends and my sibs haven't all really gone out like that before, and these separate worlds of mine blended in a new way. AC's Harvard friend T is looking at surgery fellowships and ideally will land the one in NYC. She's one of several friends we have looking for love and she even met an interesting guy at the party.

I also brought a friend, R, a Palestinian-American who's actually a subject in my feature documentary, which is about his father's Homeland Security detention case. His father died a while back and I've been one of a handful of people keeping an eye on him, he's got some mental health issues, specifically a schizophrenia diagnosis, and has difficulty maintaining a "normal" life and fitting in. He had an okay time though he basically kind of passed out sitting in a chair, and eventually puked mostly but not completely into the nearest trash container.

One of those parts of life you wish you could affect positively but can't do much about.

Gotta do my first week's Sociology class readings today, then a movie tonight.

Supposed to go to Montreal next weekend for an aikido seminar, though I'm a bit nervous about getting this UN job tied up by then. It'll be the first time I've been to Canada (except as an infant). Any recommendations on what to do there?
