So I decided to go to a soirée for escorts and clients.
The whole purpose of this hush-hush event is for sex workers to meet potential “customers.” Test drive a car before purchasing, if you will. Only you’re not “riding” them and women aren’t cars.
This particular “meet & greet” is arranged a few times a year by some guy in his swanky loft who just enjoys putting these things together like he’s some kind of a power player in the underground sex world. Whatevs, old dude. I showed up, put my $75(!) in an envelope with my email address labeled on it and slapped on my name tag. The guys were a mix of young professionals, middle-aged business men and pathetic, fat slobs who couldn’t get laid without paying.
You go around the loft, grab an alcoholic beverage and chit-chat with the women while they show off thier “merchandise.” Lots of cleavage, short skirts, high heels and “business” cards. I wanted to get a feel for who some of the women were aside from sex work. Netflix was a common topic of discussion (easy icebreaker). One escort from Michigan recently got a friend she’s known since the 5th grade to join an escort agency with her. I was also not surprised that the youngest ones were in school, either for a Master’s or to learn a skilled trade. I mean, other than sex work which does require skills. 😏
The main topic of discussion was SESTA/FOSTA, a law signed by Trump this month that has made it difficult for online ads/resources sex workers needed to screen clients. One sex worker I spoke with mentioned her income has been hit significantly and she has no way to verify potential clients to see if they’re cops or rapists/murders.
One escort mentioned she saw more girls than usual that night and these “meet & greets” are probably gonna happen more frequently. This was the first and last one I’ll go to. It was a real eye-opening experience. The whole thing reminded me of a school dance. And I fucking hated those.
Whatever your opinion is of sex work, it’s the “oldest profession in the world” for a reason. Someone’s paying for FS, DATY, BBBJ and MSOG. Most likely Trump.
