Went back to the old profile pic; what can I say, I like to see what people look like when I visit their journals, so I thought I'd best return the favor. (Although now we all have this marvy new "My Pics" feature! There's a lot in mine, so check 'em out! Please.)

Due to overwhelming demand (OK, 3 requests), here is the letter I sent to Skin & Ink:

Hi gang! Once again you've done a superlative job with regards to the November 02 issue. However, while reading the tattooed strippers article, I winced in pain at the words "Pointing to the five-pointed star, or pentagram, hidden inside a starfish design, Pep'r reveals that the tattoo reflects her fascination with Satanism. 'I'm a stripper and a Satanist,' she says, smiling wickedly." ::big, exasperated sigh:: Sweet Isis - here we go again! As a Pagan and a Witch, it is my sacred duty to (once again!) set the record straight.

It seems that cute widdle Pep'r is a bit confused (and not just about how to spell her name). The upright pentagram is NOT a Satanic symbol. The five points of the star represent the four elements - Air, Fire, Water and Earth - along with the fifth, unifying element of Spirit. The circle that surrounds the star represents the never-ending cycle of birth-death-rebirth - the circle of life. It has been a sacred symbol of Pagans and Witches for years, and we are extremely tired of having to explain to people, over and over and OVER again, that there is nothing Satanic about it. Satanists love to invert things, and they have managed to appropriate the inverted pentagram as their own (completely obscuring its original meaning as a representation of the Horned God). This makes sense when you consider that a Satanist is merely an inverted Christian. Personally, I think the Satanists have done a good job of "inverting" their heads into a certain bodily orifice...

Otherwise, another great issue!
(Sincerely, blah blah blah)

I'm glad they printed it, but I guess I should have said "I'd rather you didn't print my email address if you print this." Oh well, I have yet to receive any hate mail, and like I said, I'm a big girl, I can handle it.

We had a nice weekend! Mom is doing fine, the old bellydance crowd was there for the traditional First Saturday hafla (kind of a potluck-dance party), and the old Unitarian Universalist crowd was there Sunday morning. A good time was had by all.

Well, while Byron's in the shower, I'm going to head over to the grocery store and get some taquitos and chips (and maybe a couple Coronas) and we're going to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!!! Arriba, arriba!!!

I soooo hear what you are saying about size discrimination. I get looks when I go into an office just because I am not a size 4. Screw them!!!

lol, but I will get a job. I am determined to get one and hold onto it until I finish school.

I'm glad you joined the group. smile Having like minded people around just boosts confidence, don't you think? smile
