Insulting someone you're friends with is very funny stuff (whether you call them an idiot or fucktard or whatever). Insulting someone you don't know... is insulting.
Simply not being into a band or something is one thing, but insulting anyone who would like them is another, and it's mean spirited to boot. I'm not really into the whole ripping on someone if they have different musical tastes than me thing, which is why I don't go into the music boards anymore. But if it's your thing, hooray - just don't be all surprised when the people you insult get all pissed and/or insulted.
And when I say get people together for a Saturday night event, I'm talking about people going to the tease o rama as a group. There are already half a dozen SGLA members talking about this thing in the SGLA group. We go to things like this all the time, and I don't think it occured to anyone that this would be something we'd have out of town visitors for. So I was suggesting we do some sort of larger, open event and include any and all visitors in the happenings...
