This has been a great week so far. Megan and I have finished moving into our new apartment and we couldn't be happier. Once we got the furniture in, we realize that we'd both underestimated how large the apartment is. We have so much space, we had to buy new furniture to fill it. It's great not sharing a place with a third roommate who feels the need to take up a full half of the entire apartment.
There was one setback, though. We decided to head down to the Ikea store in Chicago on Tuesday, to grab some furniture we needed. The store is usually open until 9pm on weekdays. So we drove the 2, 2 and a half hours down there, and arrived at 7pm to find that the store had just closed for yearly inventory. There was no notification of this on the Ikea website, no warning at all. We found we weren't the only people that had driven for hours to find the store closed.
We wandered around Chicago for a short while, most of it spent at Target in a cloud of frustration.
However, after the drive back we felt much better as we walked into our new apartment again. Since then we've been busying ourselves with unpacking and arranging our things. It only took a day or so before our DSL was working, and it's already much better than Charter cable ever was.
Lacking the display cases I'd planned to grab from Ikea, there's not enough shelf space for all my belongings, but I'll figure something out until we either make another run to the Ikea store, or bitch their customer service into giving us free shipping for our troubles.
Despite the Ikea thing, I'm in an exceptionally good mood, if rather tired from all the not-sleeping I've been doing. I can't wait to have the whole apartment in order and start inviting people over to check it out.
