Got myself a brand spankin' new monitor. A 19" Samsung LCD monitor. I was a bit worried at first, last I'd heard LCDs were not the best monitors out there. Trouble with resolutions, incorrectly displayed colours, lots of 'shadowing' effects. I did have a bit of trouble with resolution at first, until I found out that LCDs tend to work best at their native resolution. I found out what that was for this monitor, set it, and voila, perfect picture.
It gives me a bit of a problem with games, very noticible 'staircasing' effects, because my videocard can't handle running the newest games at 1280x1024 resolution, which is the monitor's native resolution. Still, I'm not a big game player, anyways, and this monitor is excellent for artwork. A bit of tweaking the colour callibration and it looks great!
I went back and fixed the artwork with the wacky colours (my old monitor had the brightness and contrast turned way down or it would spaz out and die), and at this resolution I have a lot more screen to work with when working on new artwork.
Aside from the resolution issue, there's been no problems with colours, no shadowing effects, it even displays black correctly, something older LCDs had a problem with.
I still need to mail out the rebate form, should do that today. 19" LCD for $499, not shabby at all.
