ya know, I don't think I've ever heard Godflesh. I've known about them forever, but somehow i've managed to never hear them... so where do I start? If I were to pick up an album or two, which ones? any I should avoid?

Pelican's on HydraHead, and Isis kind of hops around a bit... they've put records out on HydraHead (the singer runs the label), Neurot, Ipecac & Escape Artist... Pick up Oceanic. It's one of the best albums I've ever heard. and pick up anything by Pelican. they only have an EP and one full-length, and they're both incredible.
