Haven't done much this weekend.

Had another heart scare so I'm keeping myself housebound until I feel proper again. So that meant combing through my film library and Netflix to keep myself occupied. Watched Rebel Without A Cause for only the second time, and I think I read too much into it.

It was released back in 1955 but man, is it still ever relevant. The lead has no direction, his family is inept yet highly critical of his activities, some kids want to beat him up for being himself, a girl is playing mind games with him and the one friend he has is mentally unstable. Been there, buddy. Been there.

The film is mainly recognized for being James Dean's final film (he was a lead or supporting role in only THREE films; Dean died a month before Rebel was released), yet it definitely should be watched for its fantastic performances by the entire cast. It's a fine commentary on the lull many people - especially youth - felt in post-WWII America. In a sense, we never recovered from it. In fact one could argue with each successive war/major conflict, we've become more and more disenfranchised. Think about it: WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War and Iraq War: 5 wars in 70 years, 28 of those years in formally recognized conflict. This doesn't include any brief skirmishes, or the Cold War. Anyway, my point is we're so focused on taking the fight to others, we forgot how to take of ourselves. Don't get me started about the scarily precipitous drop in the education system as we continue to bleed our coffers dry.

Our (America's) prime example of losing focus is our negative perception and hesitation to promote mental health. There's a reason why we've become more likely to shoot each other, shop until we drop (our credit ratings), drink ourselves stupid or eat ourselves to death... coping mechanisms. We may lack a distinct feeling of contentment, safety, or purpose. Therefore, we compensate externally. I would definitely suggest people get down with The Four Noble Truths if I didn't think they'd beat the shit outta me for speaking my mind, or trying to turn them away from Jesus.

confused Remember free speech and civility? Man, those were the days.

Still no website. Had a hiccup in its construction. Maybe on June 1.
Still holding on to Zeus' ashes. Mom and I may finally release them later this week.
Oh! I wrote in Croatian. Guess that worked out!
