I've been cooking in the lab lately. My committee told me I need to learn chemistry if I'm going to be a chemist. So... I'm trying some synthesis now. I made nanosize Cobalt Sulfide nanospheres with a platinum particle in them. The synthesis requires using dioctacarbonyl cobalt... which is rather dangerous and causes cyanosis (whatever that is) and reacts violently with water. Needless to say it exploded all over my hood when I was trying to inject it into my Pt nanoparticle solution. Oops... maybe I should stick with lasers and NMR.

Update: Check my pics under TEM for a TEM picture of my Pt@CoS! It turns out the synthesis went really well!!! The Pt is actually inside the Cobalt sulfide sphere and they're fairly monodisperse... enough that I can take out the bad junk!!
