Sore throats make everybody miserable! Me especially.

Slogging through Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent. I'm starting to wonder if I care enough to finish it. This thing needs to come to a point, and soon.

Speaking of pointless things: the Franch movie, Artemesia--about Artemesia Gentileschi (sp?). In dealing with her life, it strayed far from history, which claims that the painter she was studying with raped her; no, apparently, she was in love with him, and didn't want to accuse him of rape in the first place. I could almost deal with this, if she had spent less time undressing and (for some reason) running across fields (she spent an inordinate amount of time doing this), and actually painted something. No, she spent ages on nudism and exercise and then churned out a masterpiece in a couple of minutes. Even the gorgeous actress (humorously unlike the original) couldn't save the thing remotely. Sigh.

I've felt that one could simply read every third page of TSA and still get the plot, if this helps. I don't think I'll ever finish it. I've seen parts of the film, but apparently the competing program on growing sod was more interesting, since I don't recall the ending. I bought a 1924 edition of The Arrow of Gold last year, and it is a lovely book to hold(id est, also unreadable).
