ok it is full update time. this update is going to take a couple of days. here is Part 1, wednesday, and thursday.
i left my place wednesday morning at 3:30am to head out to Indianapolis. after a long and boring drive i got to Indy at around 1:30pm. now Indianapolis does not reconise daylight savings time so it was 12:30pm there. the hotel that we were staying at would not let me check in because the reservations were under my friends name, and his flight wasn't due to arrive until 4:30pm Indy time. with nowhere to go, i decided to go to the airport, and hang around. the bar at the airport's TGIFriday's fit the bill for killing time nicely, then of course watching the TSA officers give people a hard time at the security check gave me some amusement (how is one going to hijack a plane with a belt buckel anyway?
). once my friend's flight arrived it was straight to baggage claime, and then to our hotel in the town of Fishers, Indiana (about 15 miles from the city). dinner, then bed.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) thursday. the only thing going on today was the pitlane walkabout which was alot of fun. being this close to the cars, the teams was just so cool.
this is a picture of me standing in front of the Ferrari race control that is along side of the pitwall.
here are some more pictures from inside the Ferrari garage.
this picture is from Jean Todt's (Ferrari's Sporting Director) spot on the pitwall race control.
here are some pictures from the BMW.WilliamsF1 garage.
while at the Williams garage, 3 time F1 champion Sir Jackie Stewart (who is an ambassador with RBS, the Royal bank of Scottland) was standing around and talking to some Williams team personel. he decided to come over and sign some autographs. i was lucky enough to get one, and my friend Gary was sharp enough to get a picture of it.
here are some pictures of the BAR garage
here is a picture of the Renault engine cover
after the pitlane walkabout we went back into the plaza for the Michael Schumacher interview with the guys from Speed Channel. we were standing to far away to get any pictures, and the plaza was jammed packed for this interview. here of a picture that we got later of the Speed Channel guys: Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, and Peter Windsor. Peter also serves as the FIA interviewer at the driver, and team press conferences. he has also worked for Ferrari, and WilliamsF1, and is the guy who saved Sir Frank Williams's life when Frank, and Peter were driving back to england from testing back in 1986 and Frank rolled their car down a hill.
here are two pictures of Grid Girls, or as some call them Pit Babes standing in the with a Ferrari F2000 that has been re-liveried with current sponsers.
i couldn't help wanting a picture with them as well.
after the plaza we walked back to the team shops by the IMS Museuem. i ended-up spending $455 on three Ferrari shirts, and a windbreaker. this would not be the end of my spending for the race weekend.
after that there wasn't much going to go on the rest of the day so we went to dinner, then back to the hotel, and to the Bennigans bar that was connected to our hotel.
more to come later in the week.
