oh you long week of anguish, boy-crushes, and too much alcohol
in what seems like many fridays ago, i flew to seattle in order to visit juno106, DutchessVanian, and the absolutely lovely, kr1ssyk1tty. good times were had, altho i did receive the news last Sunday that my granny had died. i left seattle on tuesday and flew ALL FUCKING day across the country to baltimore to reunite w/the family for funeral stuff. she was a devout Catholic, which means not only was there an over-abundance of alcohol, but plenty of good ol' catholic guilt and shame to go around. we had the viewing on Wednesday, which consisted of little more than letting granny lie in her coffin at the head of a huge room, while old--pun intended--friends and whatever relatives remain congregated. there were very few tears, due to this being an expected outcome as granny was quite ill in the past few years. i met folks who knew granny back "oh, forty years or so ago when we would swap recipies and go bowling." a few ladies, who my father referred to as granny's "Sodality Sisters" insisted on leading a "prayer circle," which apparently was code for "Cult-sounding chanting and endless Hail Mary readings." it bothered me, being one of literally three non-practicing Catholics, and for my unintentional ignorance of the chanting i was expected to do, i did receive the inevitable stares and murmurs.
the next day at the funeral, i was a pall-bearer. a funny thing considering that when granny died she must have weighed a whopping 50 pounds. in true Catholic funeral fashion, the priest showed up drunk for the proceedings, a secret that was blown as he continuously slurred words and even referred to my saintly grandmother as a "wonderful father to her children." he too shot me looks as i knelt in the first pew and smiled when my baby nephew took the opportunity during the prayer silence to gurgle and rip a fart.
that pretty much sums up the baltimore trip. i'm too spent to try and describe seattle right now. just know that Juno and Dutchess are wonderful, generous hosts, and make some of the best food i have ever had. i can't say nearly enough about kr1ssyk1tty and just how awesome she is.
thank you all for your condolences and well-wishes. it was appreciated. i have been almost continually drunk for the past week and a half. i'm such a lush.

We can be friends first, fall in love, and then get married next year.
