Sounds amazing! Living right next to a swimable beach is a great thing. One of the real perks of Marseille (I actually walk twenty minutes through a beautifull nature preserve to get to the mediterranean sea from my office

Sigur Ros and biking in the snow at dawn, by a lake, that sounds too beautiful! As for the bike lock, you could get some lock spray thatll keep it smooth. Heating it with the lighter just melts snow, which then freezes to ice, say I, mr. know-it-all. :p

Speaking of a new country, admirable that you can feel this after sucha short time, It always takes me months to get there!
My immidiate feeling is always one of unmittigated excitement. Like a kid in a new toy store I guess
