I know it's been ages and I feel bad about that. For now I'm holding on to all the wedding photos. In the meantime, we got a puppy!!!! Meet our Shiba Inu Konoha!!!
Shiba's are a natural treasure of Japan and a very interesting dog breed. They are much more closely related to wolves than other dogs and require different training methods. They were originally bred as hunting dogs (boar and black bear), are less domesticated than western dogs, and are basically bad ass. They have some very cat like tendencies and unique personalities.
We got her a few weeks ago and she is now 4 months old. We would like to think we rescued her from a pet shop, most their puppies are much younger. As you can see from the top pic.
She was quite a bit nippier than I expected, and most puppies I'm experienced with, so we have been doing tons of research and hired a trainer that knows his shit with Japanese breeds. That has helped tremendously, she gets really bratty sometimes but I'm confident we are on the right track now and she's mostly improving and learning how to interact with us the right way. We started walking and socializing her last week and that should help out tons.
When she isn't being a brat which is most of the time now, she's really sweet and has tons of energy. So far her favorite toy is the cardboard tube from aluminum foil and her favorite thing is to be chased. Particularly with her tube. Other than that she loves chewing on things. Her stuff when she's behaving and everything else when she's being a brat. She sits, lays down, and does her business outside 90% of the time. Still training her other things. She doesn't bark a great deal and only gripes for a minute or two when we put her up.
For now that's most of the time but eventually we will be able to let her just be out.
