Yeah, about that. I was using didactic as the definition "making moral observations". (def. #2 in Webster's website). Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder can be very didactic, you'd be amazed. It's not so much "Here's bluegrass, lemme tell you about it" although there was a fair amount of that. More like here's a song for our troops (ok) now let's all on stage and in the audience coalesce into agreement that we need to support our fearless leader and all the "soldiers fighting who make it possible to protest". Hrmmmm. Ok, Ricky, enough of the politix, I came to hear you fiddle, not suck the president's cock. Let me clarify this- I hate getting into the war discussion, but maybe I oughta do it once here and then let it go. I'm not exactly positive why it's so important to support the troops in a war you don't support. I see all these people that are against the war, suddenly kind of cedeing ground and saying "well, now that we're there, I support the troops, but I still don't like what you're there for!" Why? In the words of the prophet Hicks 3:16 "Aren't y'all hired killers?" I don't see why I'm suddenly supposed to feel sorry for the troops just following orders. IT'S A VOLUNTEER MILITARY! you signed up, you weren't drafted. Funny how Bush said that no Iraqi soldiers would be able to hide behind the excuse of "I was following orders" if they used chemical or biological weapons on the "Coalition of the Willing" (don't start me on that idiotic propaganda). So if he's going to ostensibly try Iraqi soldiers for war crimes for following orders, how does that make US soldiers exempt from the same? They follow orders to kill people. Ok, Ok I've said way too much for not being on the current events board. I'll step off my own extra-large soapbox now. But that was what I was getting at- I don't go to bluegrass concerts to have message whipped at me off a fiddle string.
