That's my temporary solution to a pernanent problem of the moment.

A house burned about a block from where I live. A truck also burned in the driveway. I heard later two people died. I also heard it was started when a cigarette ignited a mattress. I'd never seen a house fire up close before like that. I always saw them on the news and assumed that yeah it sucked for whoever was in that house, but the rest of the neighborhood outside of the next door neighbors would be relatively unscathed. Not true. Smoke doesn't just go straight up. It hovers in the air. So that I can't see 2 feet in front of my face. So I can't breathe. So that after being outside for 5 minutes, I smell like I've been working near a large bonfire all day. The experience of having a house fire nearby is way more intense than I thought it would be.

From now on, I'm making damn sure all my ciagrettes are firmly put the fuck out. I'll be the one sitting at the Pirate's Cove with a fire extinguisher poised at the ready over my ashtray. Come watch the paranoid guy smoke.
