I went by the apartment today to decide where things are going to go. The moving truck carrying my tv, bed, couch, and lots and lots of boxes should arrive sometime after Thursday. The good news is there is plenty of space for all of it to fit.
There is, however, bad news. Not really bad news. Not 'Oh my god what have I got myself into," bad news. Just not news I wasn't excited about recieving.
First off, some of the windows don't open. They just won't. They weren't locked, or blocked as far as I could see, they just refused to open. This includes sliding door to my "yard" from the kitchen. It absolutely refuses to open. I'll have to talk to the property managers in the next few days to get this fixed.
More troubling than that though (at least to me), is that there are no wifi networks within range of the apartment. I went over there today with intention of moving stuff in, but if I'm not going to have an internet connection there, I ain't moving. This is the first time since I started using wifi that I have found myself in a house without a wifi network within range. This makes me wonder about what kind of backwater hicks I'm living around. They probably still use rotary phones or something. Losers.
The final bit of bad news was when I went into the kitchen to pick up my keys. There was an ant. Just one. But where there is one ant, there are hundreds of thousands of them. The kitchen was empty, and yet that one ant still had reason to be wandering around the countertop.
I hate ants. I hate them with a passion that is almost Howard Hughesian in its scope. Fortunately I have spent the last 2 months washing all my dishes shortly after using them, so I'm prepared in at least one way. The minute they come out with an ant targetting atom bomb, I'm going to be all over that shit.
Other than that, life is pretty slow. These hot summer days cannot end soon enough for me. I moved to Portland because I like clouds, and rain. I feel ripped off. How far north do I have to go to NOT get a little sun? Geesh.
