My computer does not have speakers. I listen to my collection of mp3s, and the music for my video games through a pair of very nice Sony headphones I bought for myself a while ago. Well I left them at dialysis on Wednesday. So instead of listening to New Slang, I just keep repeating it in my head. Mostly it's just that opening refrain, or wail, or whatever that is that the vocalist does at the beginning and the end of the song. Just playing it on a loop in place of the random tracks I'd be listening to if I could actually hear the files on my computer.

Sometimes I change it up a bit. I'll play the opening bit of Green Day's Jesus of Suburbia. Usually just the first few lines..."I'm the son of rage and love. The Jesus of Suburbia." Later on I'll catch myself humming No Feelings by The Sex Pistols, or Pretty Vacant. Ever since I did those parodies for BlueValentine I've had The Smiths stuck in my head too. Always a bad sign, since that usually means I'm on the verge, or in the depths of, a depression. But it's only Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want that I'm hearing, and not I Know It's Over. Things are bad when "Mother I can feel the soil falling over my head..." keeps playing through my mind.

But I'm sitting here whistling New Slang, and things aren't that bad.
