Not too long ago, only 3 years, I vowed to never again set foot in Las Vegas during the Summer. It seemed like one of those vows I would have no trouble keeping. I've lost interest in Defcon, and I've never liked gambling, so Las Vegas never posed much of a threat to my resolve.
Unfortunately Sony and Everquest 2 have conspired to turn me into a liar yet again.
Sony has this thing they call a Fan Faire going on in Las Vegas the first week of August. It's a convention of the people who play their MMORPGs. It gives the hundreds of thousands of isolated nerds and nerdesses who would be sitting around their computers talking on headsets about killing dragons and debating the benefits of melee vs. spell procs the chance to talk about killing dragons and debate the benefits of melee vs. spell procs FACE TO FACE. Which, as anyone who has ever been to a convention of computer nerds before knows, has its upside and its downside. The upside being that some of those nerds and nerdesses are really hot, and lots of fun to hang out with. The downside being that a whole lot of them are socially inept, and painful to spend more than 10 minutes with in real life. I like to think of myself among the first group, except for the really hot part.
But that's the great thing about Las Vegas in the Summer - everyone is really, really hot. And by "great thing" I mean agonizing, soul-crushing, life depleting and all around sucktastic thing, because Las Vegas in the Summer is about 10 degrees hotter than Satan's ass crack. I already loathe Vegas (and yes, I fear it too), throw that much heat and stink in to the mix and you would think there is no reason for me to ever go back. That is until some voices over the internet that you've been talking to for 3 months tell you they will give you a place to stay, beer to drink, and strippers to hang out with if you brave the heat. Add to that I'll get the chance to meet people I've been talking to/ hanging out with for the last year, and it seems like it will be worth the trip.
So yeah Vegas, you got me. I'm coming back this Summer for another computer convention. May god have mercy on my soul.

I already think I'm forming a small addiction to scratch offs, I dont think I could be trusted in LV.
