Alright, this is just too weird. I'm still reeling from the surrealism of it all.
So my mother plays Everquest 2. Like, a lot. She spends way too much money and time playing this game. If she didn't have to work, she wouldn't. She would stay home and play EQ2, and sometimes she does. A little while ago there was a change in EQ2, and a lot of people moved around to different servers, so now her character and my character are no longer able to group together. This makes her sad, and she's been trying to get me to move servers so that she and I can spend time together online again. I like the server I'm on, so instead I just call and talk to her on the phone. About a week ago she bought an account from someone so that the guild she is in now would have a certain class of character - a mystic. It just so happens that the character I play, and play damn well, is a Mystic. So she called me up today to ask me to log into this new character, set up the interface for her, and while I was there maybe even equip, and level the character. You know, if I was feeling helpfull.
Well it seems that this request had an ulterior motive.
I logged on, and set things up for my mom's character. She bought the toon (toons are what EQ folk call their characters) at level 50, and it was already most of the way to level 51. Close enough that it could be easily reached in an hour. I'd been out for about 30 minutes when I started getting tells (private messages, for those of you not hip to the vernacular of online gaming) from the guild leader.
"Hello. Thanks for helping out your mom."
no problem. Glad to help.
"So... we could really use you over here. It would make your mom happy."
Sorry, I'm happy where I am.
I should mention here that the guild leader is a woman.
"Your mom told me to tell I'm 30 years old, 5'1 32,33,36
..." or something. Someone tells me their measurements online, it's like telling me there's a million dollars buried in your back yard. I wouldn't believe it, and even if I did, I'm never going to see it. I forget about it as soon as it's off my screen.
"So, do you like long walks on the beach? I live on the beach. I love long walks on the beach."
The next 30 minutes are this woman flirting with me. Flirting like whoa. Flirting like I haven't been flirted with in many moons. Unfortunately the flirting is occasionaly spiced with text like, "Your mom is giving me pointers," and, "Your mom says I should tell you I'm hot." It seems my mother and her had talked about me several times before this evening, and the consensus they had reached is that a) I would like this guild leader lady, and b) flirting is the way to get me to do what they want.
So yeah, I got set up on a virtual blind date on Everquest 2 by my mother.
Top that.
