I'll begin with this weekend. I spent it playing Everquest 2. A whole lot of Everquest 2. Around Christmas I'd gone on hiatus from EQ, and just didn't feel like playing it anymore until recently. I had almost cancelled my account, but a combination of curiosity about the new expansion pack and darvocet-enhanced boredom drew me back in once again. The monkey never dies...
Anyway, I logged in and checked out the new changes, went on some new raids, and racked up a couple of levels. My Mystic is level 66 (the cap is 70 now), and of him I'm quite proud. The guild I'm in, hoewver, contains a whole lotta douchebags.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the course humor, but my sense of humor doesn't often extend to the outright cruel. I have this horrible personality trait that causes me to actually feel bad for people. So after two days of your mom jokes, gay bashing, and other adolescent ass-holery, I'm sick of almost every person I'm associated with in EQ2.
Meanwhile, in SG land, the ass-holery abounds. You reading this can probably think of a few examples I don't even know about. Seriously, douchebags douchebags douchebags. And that includes me too, because I've been a part of some of it.
I hate feeling like a douchebag.
So for the next couple of days I'm going to be a little bummed. I'm going to work on my homework, take my pills, let my throat recover, and maybe log onto EQ late at night when no one else is on. Right now I'm bothered and disturbed by human behavior, and that includes my own. And that really makes me sad.
