alright alright. i'm quite drunk right now (no big surprise) and i thought i'm rant and rave here.

i've recently had a rather shocking experience. i've been a rather strong believer in natural selection and evolution (and preached it on occasion) but there seems to be some rarther disturbing evidence linking the development of life on earth to some sort of intelligent design.

i would normally dismiss such arguments but the facts and reasons are extremely compelling.

for anyone that doesn't want to wade through the articles, here's the basic suposition:

dna. as i'm sure everyone knows by now, dna is the information structure that determines how protein's are formed from amino acids. the idea surrounding the origins of life on earth involve the apparently random combination of the rights types of amino acids (of which there are approximately 20) which make up the most fundamental protein structure.

now imagine the chicken/egg scenario. according to the intelligent design theorem, pure random chance simply cannot account for the initial combination of amino acids, the probability of such a paring is so astronomical that it's highly unlikely that the origins of life can be explained by pure chance.

for life to exist there needed to be an information structure in place which is recognizable (in this case dna). a recognizable information structure needs to contain basic elements that prove that it was designed by an intellectual force with defining characteristics that distiguish it from random chance. as it stands right now there are a number of scientists around the world currently struggling with this concept (science is a hotbed of atheism, the idea of a metaphysical explanation of life on earth is contradictory to some of the most fundamental precepts of science in this day in age).

blah blah. i need to shut up. i just have to say that it is bothering me to no end right now. i wish i was a little more coherent to make sense of this post... but i'm going to call it a night.

But such a structure can be achieved by pure chance. The earth is sooooo big and there's been such a long time of development that it happenned accidentally. It's just like the odds of winning the lottery, somebody is going to win it eventually and the chance for everybody is the same.
Also, recent experiments with random DNA pairings have shown that DNA can be used to solve large complex problems simply using random pairings. The trick behind the random pairings are that there's so many the odds themselves point towards there being at least one (if not millions) of copies of the solution.
