my first two-page journal entry.
ah well. it was nice while it lasted. granted, most of the posts were mine, and i shamelessly plugged myself by posting on hoards of other journal's, but it was nice to see the little 02 at the bottom.
:smokes a cigarette:
:stubs out said cigarette and coughs (retches is closer) since cigarettes are disgusting:
i saw a girl on the bus the other day talking incessantly into her cell-phone. i couldn't figure out who she was talking too, but whoever it was didn't get one word in edgewise.
this went on for about a half-hour.
it wasn't a muted conversation either. everyone on the bus heard her "like, and you know" over and over again. i'm beginning to think that she wasn't even talking to anyone.
about 5min. prior to disembarking, she "hung-up".
funny thing is, she started to bounce up and down as if she was having a seizure (well i guess it's not that funny).
is this a vision of the future? that if we're not plugged, wired (or wireless-ed) into some vast communication pool where we can natter on incessantly we disintegrate into seizure-rapt malcontents... ?
i suppose it's not much better than boasting of numbers on journal entries, on a communal website, full of faceless (or 235 by 175 picture-d), pseudo-named people that you may, or may not ever meet.
i'm a little scared.

I'm growing more and more of the impression that scenarios from books like 1984 and Brave New World are less disturbing than the world we're gradually ALLOWING ourselves to form around us- we're not going to need a Big Brother to control what we think or are alllowed to do because we'll get to a point where we're just not THINKING anymore at all...
