Peoples methods for dealing with Mental Ilness

Was just wondering what to people do when their mental ilness is getting you down. A method I use that my therapist told me about was called the positive persona. Esentially how it works is you imagine your happy place, something that always makes you feel warm and then another person in this place (preferably someone you don't know personally i.e. fictional characters rather than real people). This person will be like an internal saftey net as you imagine them saying the things you want to hear like 'it is going to be ok' or 'don't listen to your intrusive thoughts' the idea is to seperate these positive thoughts from yourself (because most people don't believe nice things from ourselves) and projecting it on another person who will never let you down.

What methods do you use.

Usually, it's linked with my lack of rest/sleep, so I try to go to bed and fall asleep (I'm paranoid)

Agree with @cersei!! When I lack sleep my paranoia is taking over. Now I'm eating healthy, working out and doing cardio 4 times a week and surround myself with good people who support me, instead of pulling me down. I sleep better and feel better. I don't expect it to always be great, or that I can keep it under control, but it's about getting up after a fall. Good luck xx
