i have a friend who's teaching in japan. it's funny, she's the only one in our group of friends who didn't take nihongo in college. and she's the only one that actually uses it.

just a question: aren't you concerned about indirectly supporting the chinese government by traveling to tibet right now? i'd love to see lhasa but wouldn't go for that reason.

that makes perfect sense. and it's an honorable reason to visit. i'm sure you will find whichever truths you are looking for with such pure intent.

sorry for the seeming attack above...i just get really up in arms about what western travel does to the rest of the world, as it makes the people of an economically weak country dependent on the money it brings in at times (i'm thinking of the caribbean), or alters an otherwise preserved and unadulturated cultural dynamic. probably especially so in such a special place as tibet.
