I just witnessed the worst single car accident I think I've ever seen.

I'm writing all of this down while it's fresh, just in case the police need any more details from me tomorrow.

I was driving home after dropping Cat off, heading south on highway 99. I had just left the "viaduct" part of the highway and just hit the rain after coming out from underneath the northbound lanes.

In front of me was a new looking grey 4-door truck. Big wheels, 4x4, the works.

As we hit the wet pavement, he either hit his brakes or goosed the gas, causing him to fishtail. As he tried to correct, he oversteered, causing him to spin all the way around.

As he spun, he hit the curb and a pothole, causing him to flip. He rolled 2 and a half times (I believe), and ended up on the roof with most of the truck on the other side of the railroad tracks.

I pulled over, hopped out, dialed 911 on the cell phone, and started helping people out of the truck.

There was one male driver & 3 female passengers, one in the front passenger seat, the other two in the rear seats.

Everyone was able to get out of the truck on their own and only one girl complained that her back hurt.

I tried to get everyone to sit down as we waited for the emergency services to arrive, but the girls were ALL very shaken and on the verge of shock/panic. The male driver kept trying to assure them that everything was going to be okay and that the only thing damaged was the truck.

A few other cars had stopped by this time and we were all making sure that the girls had coats/blankets since it was cold and raining.

When the first police car showed up, he asked what happened, I explained as best I could and showed him which of the small crowd were the passengers of the vehicle.

He took my name, address & phone number, thanked me for stopping and told me I could leave.

The fire department showed up with ambulances and a fire truck, attended to the gals & checked to make sure that the truck was "safe" as it was.

I got my coat back from the girl who had it around her as the fire department was getting her a blanket, then left.

Man... talk about an immediate adrenaline hit. I don't know how they all walked away from that crash. The truck was COMPLETELY fucked. Roof caved in, glass everywhere, parts everywhere. I just hope that kid hadn't been drinking...

I need to go to bed now. At least it's all written down.

I've got a big truck like that that I use for hauling shit around from time to time. It's a little older and doesn't have many safety features besides a seatbelt. I'm always very cautious because I'm terrified that I'm going to fall victim to the same kind of accident you saw last night. Those trucks are so high off the ground that the minute they start to shift momentum in the wrong direction you've got a serious problem.

I've been in quite a few accidents myself. I'm always amazed at how much time slows down during those few seconds of a crash. I've been in so many accidents that I'm usually pretty calm. I drive race cars and wrecking is racing. I guess I've learned how to calm the nerves and avoid panic. I definately think it's saved my life a few times.

Glad to know that no one was seriously injured.

How are you doing?

Enjoy the holidays.
