Im lucky I have people around me that can save my ass when it needs saving. I hate being this helpless, and I especially hate being a burden to anyone, but my friends and work colleagues (whom I also consider friends) have helped me tremendously in the past couple of days while Ive been dealing with this car accident.
The heap returns tomorrow, hopefully. With any luck, the rear drivers side wheel is bonked, and not the actual suspension. If its just the wheel, I have a spare in the trunk. Ill put that on, roll down to Discount Tire where my friend works, and switch the old tire off the old wheel and pop it on the spare wheel. Done deal. If the suspension is whats bent upblech.
I have no idea if my door is going to fix the way Id like. If Im lucky, I can remove the old door, buy a new one from the junk yard, and install that. Thats if the cross-bar between the front and rear doors is solid and not fucked up (I dont remember it being damaged, the front door closes fine), and the latch isnt smashed in too far. Well see.
Its going to cost me about $200 to have it towed back to Phoenix. A friend of mine was supposed to help me out with his car trailer and F150, but I havent been able to get a hold of him for the past two days. He got the keys to his new house and hasnt shown up for work, or answered his cell phone since then. Guess he needed to move his shit, which is cool. I cant wait any more, though. I need to get the car back, evaluated, and fixed ASAP.
Had the Jeep hit my front drivers side door, instead of the rear, Im not sure what shape Id be in. I cant remember how far the rear door was smashed in. I didnt really look at it and compare the distance to where I would have been sitting in the front seat compared to a passenger in the back seat. I know I would have gotten a full face full of glass. Id at least have a broken (if not broken multiple times) left arm. Might have had some ribs fucked up, and maybe my left leg. I certainly would have been bruised.
I think the Jeeps front bumper was actually INSIDE my car the instant it hit the upper part of the door and the doors window. If thats the case, it probably would have hit my head. So, I might have been killed had I been a second slower.
Its thinking about that kind of alternative that makes you thankful as hell that all thats smashed is sheet metal.
