today is the very first day of the rest of your life.

slighty cheesy, yes...but if you think about it, it can be the most liberating and inspiring realization and meditation you could have right now.

what are you waiting for?

i always convince myself things could be worse and imagine the worst scenario possible. then i think of what actually occured and feel a whole lot better and slightly silly for being petty. that's how i get through my days.

i'm slightly confused about what this journal entry space is for. apparently it is to fill it w/ crap so that one needs to be prompted to share meaningful (albeit one liners), personal information in the form a list. on top of that, it has to be something "interesting" b/c one couldnt possibly say interesting things on their own. there is/are the exception(s), of course....

Yep, you've made me jealous. wink kiss

this space seems intimidating to me too. is it a place to "think" or just a place to indulge in the narcissistic update of my daily minutia?

i tried to convince my wife i had the bird flu. she just gave me an exasperated look.

The heavens opened and rain pours down trying to cleanse our filthy man-made surfaces. In the midst of all these natural acts, I found my voice temporarily. I have become one of them, lost in their apocalyptic madness. Speaking to the dead, speaking about a losing battle.

Its funny how the zombies arise from their restless stupor and travel to their frivolous jobs that drain...

its been humid and then cool all the while rainy the last several days with no end in sight. its these sorts of days that remind me those perfect crisp, sunny, beautiful autumn days occur in my past memory rather than in the present real life.

A brief look back to the Vietnam War era eerily parallels todays world. Regardless of what you feel is the scope of resemblance, one thing is clear: the enemy has evolved, so we must evolve.

In the smoke filled haze of the revolution a generation ago, we knew who the enemy was. Nixon. The U.S. government. Krushchev. Communism. Then the smoke cleared, but something sobering...

protest is a funny thing. first, i think we don't *really* protest anymore. showing up for a rally is not protest. right? that's just the *culmination* - the public face of a lot of work (raising resources, smaller actions, legal challenges, electoral strategies at a national & local level). further, there is much less focus on actual disruption ... especially of the non-violent kind. b/c that takes guts, and no one REALLY thinks the stakes are that high right now.

on top of that - some might argue that what made things happen in the 60s, especially for the civil rights movement, was the "credible threat of violence." where's that now?

i don't know that we SHOULD have violence now ... i'm just SAYING...

Dear Tombol,
Today I woke and missed you more than normally. I had dreams of past glory. Usually much of the pain is gone, along with the other miserable emotions. Some days I do better than others, some days I remember the good, and some days I think I have gotten used to the fact. But the thing is, I know on days like today,...

you have good days and bad days, but you never stop wishing for one more day. one more conversation. one more shared memory.

that's all i can say or i'll start to cry. some days are harder than others. i wish you the best with this one.

love.

hey - digging the new profile pic.

geography is really cool. it's more like sociology - a bit more theory driven and a bit more willing to ask "fun" questions (there is an *aesthetic* element that comes into play, encouraging philosophical thinking i think). and geographers do like EVERYTHING - just any old problem they pick up and start to work on, relating the question to space. it's really really cool.

no, kanye...gwb doesnt care about black people...he just doesnt give a damn period. which is scarier, a racist president or one that is ignorant, imcompetent and uncaring?

by putting his unqualified buddies in charge of fema, and homeland security, then just moving around the organizations in a hand-waving magic trick, gwb has created a real danger to the american people - more so than any...

the thing about talking politics is that conversation can turn volatile in no time. but arbitrary actions like this can't be ignored. no one can defend that these measures are for anyone's best interest except his own. we are fuuucked.
