"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people." -- John F. Kennedy

If you think about this quote, you will realize how Bush feels about the American public. He is afraid to entrust the people with the truth about war, death, energy crisis, environmental hazards, education, biomedical monopoly, and social reform. We are fed lies, propaganda, false fears and categorically denied the freedom to express any differing opinion without the fear of being labeled anti-american. The countrys forum for free expression is snuffed out by the blanket of fear and paranoia. What are you hiding, Mr. President, what are you so afraid of?

Ive been haunted by nightmares lately, mostly because someone very dear to me is as well. The more I think about it, the more I realize our suffering isnt from bending to our weakness. Instead, its what we replace it with. Some say our imagination is what creates dramatic emphasis on the things we fear. We are haunted not by the reality of the world, but the images we have put in their place and thats what I see when I close my eyes and the back of my eyelids function like the movie screen to a horror show.

These days I lie awake at night hoping the phone will ring to break the solitude.

the short answer: no.

the long answer: happy isn't really what i strive for. it's a chemical high. it's not real. you can imagine some highschool psuedo-philospher looking up from his neizche book and sneering this, if you want. it sounds ridiculous and pompous. and it sounds bitter. i mean, why wouldn't you want to be happy? but there are better words for it. or better words at least for what i want to feel. i'd rather be productive, prolithic, proactive; i'd rather feel like there are things to look forward to than feel like i've reached that peek. i reckon i equate happiness with contentedness. and i equate content with not wanting to better one's self, not wanting more for one's self. if i ever feel like i'm living out my best days, or my best days are behind me, i figure i might as well be dead.

fear is an odd thing. it can be a motivator, or it can make you freeze up and do nothing. i suppose it depends on the person, or on what you fear.

right now i'm frozen up.
