Watched Dark Water tonight. Eh. It could've been better. The best part was the footsteps coming from upstairs. That gave me the chills.
Our old farmhouse in Tennessee is haunted. Or it was. My brothers and I used to hear and feel the footsteps downstairs. I'd be laying in bed upstairs and I could hear someone or something running from the kitchen to the living room. Or I'd feel someone stomping through the house. My eyes are getting a little watery just typing this.
I saw the woman once. I was sharing a room with my big brother. I woke up and saw a strange woman standing beside the bed. She was wearing a white gown of some sort. I couldn't make out her face although I was looking right at her. I blinked and she was gone. I figured it was my mom so I went back to sleep. A few weeks later I was helping mom with the dishes and I mentioned this strange dream I'd had about this woman. She got real quiet and told me that I should talk to my little brother. He's seen the same thing.
My little brother saw her several times. Once he awoke to find her staring down at him. He flung his blanket over his head and slowly counted to one hundred. Then he took a peek. She was still there. Back went the covers.
My big brother and my dad are the only ones to have any experience with the tall man. I'd seen him in my dreams. I had dreams about him every night for over a week. I'd wake up only to fall into the same dream. The bastard was hounding me. It got to the point where I dreaded going to bed at night.
My big brother was laying awake one night when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Someone was standing in his doorway. Suddenly he was pushed down in his waterbed until his back touched the bottom.
My dad saw the tall man in the flesh, so to speak. He awoke several times and saw him standing at the foot of his bed. Dad would reach for the gun before he realized that this man wasn't living. The man would sometimes walk right through the wall and into the field. My dad also saw the woman.
A rather thin wall was all that seperated my parent's bed from the stairs. So they heard everything. It made it hard to sneak in and out of the house. One night Dad heard footsteps on the stairs. He thought, "I'm gonna catch the little bastards in the act". He snuck out of bed and tip-toed into the hallway. A quick glance up the stairs changed his plans. He saw the woman in the flowing gown ascending to the top of the staircase. Dad followed her up. He saw her float into a room I now shared with my little brother. He stuck his head around the corner and saw her stop at the foot of our beds before disappearing. He thinks that she was checking up on us.
My little brother had a similar sighting. He was playing video games (of course) in our room around sunset one evening. He thought he saw our little sister in the doorway. He called for her. He wanted her to watch him play Metroid or whatever. She walked away. He hurried after her, calling her name. He saw her enter my sister's room. He arrived a few seconds after she did. He thought she was hiding. He checked everywhere. Nobody was in the room. So he set a new land speed record getting downstairs, where my sister was doing her homework.
One of the last spooky things happened a few years ago. I was crawling my ass into bed at three in the morning. Everyone in the house was asleep. I got under the covers and just as I shut my eyes I heard a deep voice say my name. Clear as day and plenty loud. I thought it was my little brother at first. But it wasn't. I don't know who it was. It didn't give me a good feeling though.
Anyway. I liked the little girl in the movie. We had a ghost like that in our house. She might still be there. I don't know. She was the one who used to run playfully through the downstairs at night. I saw her in a dream once. She was adorable. Brown hair. Blue dress. The woman was there too. And the tall man. He was skinny and he wore black clothes and a black hat. I was talking to him in our house. But it didn't look like our house. The furnishings were old. Maybe they looked like that when they lived in the house.
He sat in a chair and crossed his legs. He threatened me. I yelled at him until I found myself in a white void. I walked in nothingness. Then I spotted something that looked familiar. It was the door to our house. As I got closer I saw the front steps. And on the steps were the bodies of my brothers, sister, mom, and dad. I opened the door and woke up. That wasn't a good dream.
I'm gonna drag my ass off to bed now. Or maybe I'll do some thinking. I don't know.
