Since it is Shark week and I don't have cable to enjoy it, I figure I will just spew a bunch of random facts all week long. I'll start it off with a bang, my all time favorite, the Great White Shark.

Modern day ancestor to the Megalodon, one of the largest known predators in the fossil record. The Great White boasts the strongest theorized bite strength in the world, topping the scales at approximately 1.8 tonnes psi. Roughly 20X that of a human. What isn't generally known is that the White shark is a very skilled and intelligent hunter, and doesn't stalk human beings. Yes they have contributed to death tolls, but generally when they have mistaken a person for their natural prey, they have taken a test bite. Now that bite is around 1000lbs psi, and given the size of the animal can cut an average person in half.
See we aren't fat enough, and therefore don't contain enough energy to sustain them. Seals are their preferred choice, which is why they go after surfer's paddling because from underneath they strike a similarity. As with most sharks their teeth are formed from their scales, and adapt to suit their prey. Long and angular when smaller, and as they grow the teeth become wider at the base, since the shark will use them to rip chunks from larger prey.
The Great White only has one natural enemy, the Killer Whale. They compete for the same food source, and White Sharks are solitary hunters, while Killer Whales are obviously a pod or pack animal.
The picture above is a shark breaching the surface, a technique it uses to hunt seals in a certain area, lol which escapes me right now. The seals were too difficult to catch so the shark will actually launch out of the water and come down on the seal from above. Thats all the exciting things I can think of right now, and I'm off to enjoy some sunshine.
Peace out, and if you're swimming in the ocean and start hearing baritone cello, get the fuck out of the water.
