So this weekend is OppiKoppi...Its a really large festival in SA, I would go as far as to say probably the biggest music festival we have every year.

People leave as early as the week before the festival just to get a spot to camp in and then wait a week in the freezing cold(at night) and the boiling heat(during the day) in the dust, mud or dirt with their little tents to eat cold food out of cans(if they remembered to bring any) just to see some bands. As you can tell the idea really doesn't appeal to me though I am a massive Deftones fan(and they are playing at this OppiKoppi) I just cannot imagine not bathing for potentially 2 weeks and having no proper foodies or sleeping space.. Not to mention the tickets are about R1000 each(+- $100.67 US)..Thats just the ticket, no alcohol food or anything else included. I mean is it just me or does that seem a little much just for a little dusty spot to put your tent usually really far away from any stages?

There are however bands that I would probably be willing to face all of that for I suppose.. If it was NIN or perhaps TOOL or someone of that caliber coming I might consider it, but even then...I mean not bathing for 2 weeks just freaks me out. I believe there are bathing facilities but they are disgusting. I suppose I would book myself into the Kreef hotel(Not so much a hotel as ready made beds with mattresses, warm showers and breakfast every morning) but that's like another R2000 or R3000 . I mean is it really acceptable that you would end up paying about $400 Just to see a few bands and sit in the middle of fucking nowhere? The idea of spending that kind of money on anything none essential in an economic climate such as the one we are experiencing atm just kinda makes me ill puke

Would you be willing to though?Do you go to festivals? Are they really worth all of that?

After your explanation of this festival I would not go. I like music but not that much and it would be to crowded for me.

I don't really go to Koppi particularly for the bands myself, I go for my friends, the general feel of togetherness of so much youth crammed together on one farm, the ability to let loose and lose myself for a couple of days knowing I can't wander off anywhere too far out of my mind without everyone willing to help you out in whatever way possible. Kinda like the comradery I felt at old old Zeplins on Bosman street. Except at Koppi it's not just goths, it's the whole of Pretoria who has your back while you go insane.
