I'm a total flake, and it's going to get worse. I work full time at a job I hate, and try to spend every other available moment of my day working towards my future, pounding out music, making new projects, and trying to 'network'. I'm so bad at the latter. It's taking all my effort.

I have such a hard time justifying "having fun" when i'm not happy. I also have a hard time actually having fun and enjoying myself when i'm not happy. I'll be happy when music pays my bills again. I'm also happiest when i'm being productive. And fuck, I'm a music professional. It's not like i want to sit at a desk and file reports all day long. If i spend every waking second working, i inherently spend every waking second working on music. That's bliss. People seem to think i have a stick up my ass against having fun, but if you can think of something more fun than creating, writing, performing, producing and engineering music all day long...

-I'm starting a project with me on the computer, a guitarist and a cellist. That's going to take a lot of work to get off the ground for many reasons.
-I'm trying to find a singer to work with as a Singer/Producer act.
-My solo stuff is getting a little bit busier. I'm on a killer bill at the Holocene for Cinco de Mayo. I might be flying out to NYC for two shows (that's taking a lot of legwork to realize.) I might be handed a show to book again at Pi-Rem (i love that place)
-Hungry Mob is playing a lot of shows again. As their sound engineer, i'll be running the boards at their shows. Their monthly Back 2 Reality will be starting up again in May at the Wonder Ballroom. They've got some shows coming up at the Hawthorne and the Goodfoot too.

Being busy makes me happy. Free time is my enemy. Unfortunately, that means flaking out on my friends. But if they're somehow still my friends, it's probably because they understand the way things in my life transpire. And if not, well, whatever. Not everyone has to like me.

So it goes.

We have the same life practically. I hate my job, but spend every waking moment working on my artwork, writing to galleries, going to meetings, proposals...etc. I envy lazy people sometimes. I wish I could just come home from work and watch tv while drinking a few beers. Fuck that. Lazy people are fuckin boring, they never amount to anything and they will grow to be old and poor. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Sometimes being creative can be a curse and a blessing.
