WARNING: Rant Alert
Being as I haven't a job, I went to find one today. I searched around for music stores because, i figured that would be a good start. I may not be able to find a job as an Audio Engineer, but at least a music store would be vaguely in the right direction. I can teach bass, i've been playing for almost 15 years. I figured i could even sell shit if i had too. I know enough about equipment to do that.
So one of the places i went into (i'll leave the name of the down-town-area music store out of this rant) really got on my nerves. The guy wanted to know nothing of my musical backround. All he wanted to know was if i had sales experience (which i don't).
But what the fuck? I'm selling musical equipment (to us musicians aka:new shiny fun toys) to other musicians. Having no sales experience means i can't fucking do that?
And it wasn't even that he only cared about sales experience. He fucking turned his nose up to hearing any of my story or taking my resume. Fucking shit... I was fucking HEAD OF SOUND for 2 (TWO, dos, dva, and any other language you put it) venues on Bourbon street at the same fucking time. I have a degree in Studio Production and learned from Grammy nominated and Grammy award winning professors. The chick i did sound for every week at one of the clubs has sung backup for Patti LaBelle. And right before Katrina hit she was Opening for Patti LaBelle and Elton John. She wouldn't go on stage unless she saw me behind the board.
And you're gonna turn your nose up at me like i'm beneath working at your store hockin guitars to every wannabe kurt cobain/van halen/hendrix/tool/whatever flavor of the month guitarists kids are trying to be these days? I cant beleive i went that far beneath me by walking into that store looking for a job.
Fuck you and fuck your store.
If i need to spend money here i'll go to the store that didn't necessarilly need me, but politely took my resume anyway. And then when i do find a job doing real audio engineering stuff, or real live sound stuff, or if this freelance position at a local recording studio comes through and i eventually get any clout around here (something that is going to be inevitable, trust me), I'll definitely be steering people away from your store.
asshole.

eh...people like that need to feel important because they don't have anything else about them that makes them cool.
