Keep an eye on riotsmrrf's journal, as he DJs around the Bmore area and the SG folk tend to hit up his gigs.
Also I can let you know when there will be an open event, I'm trying to organize a dinner meet and greet for new folks to attend next month.
Until then just be social on the boards, if you see events listed in the area find out more about them and see if you can hit one up.
I'm not super picky hardcore, but I will only let people into the CC group who I've met or have met people I know well enough to trust their judgement.
I totally agree with you on the freedom vs. safety issue. I can understand where they're coming from, but it's a hinderance to everything we've tried to accomplish since we established our independence.
