This war isn't for your consumption. It's for Haliburton's, and the companies they do business with. Those deaths aren't to keep America safe, to protect the people's way of life, or to ensure our prosperity. It's to protect the profits and way of life of a couple of hundred rich men. They are willing to bankrupt the country, kill our young men and women, and pillage our children's future to ensure their own profits.

This war isn't about the American people, or the Iraqi people. It isn't about consumption, and it isn't about religion. I almost said it's not about ideology, but that's not true. It's about the ideology of greed. Whenever we lose sight of the fact that it is a few people manipulating a system for their own gain we lose sight of our actual degree of responsibility.

I am deeply saddened that the geographic location of my birth means a war could be brought to my doorstep, just as I am deeply saddened for the living and dead in Iraq who might have thought the exact same thing. I'm saddened that the actions of a few greedy people can put the lives of me and my family at risk from the blind hatred of other people we've never met, and don't know us enough to harm us for any good reason.

But I don't blame Subway, a clean house, or my "freedom," for it, and I sure as hell don't blame my neighbors and friends.
