Last few days on the way to work, I've past something furry and dead on the side of the road. I keep hoping it's not someone's pet and just some possum (I don't just hate possums, I feel ODIUM for them). It keeps making me think of past pets.

I have two favorites: Piwackit (my family has used that name for generations) and Blackbeard. Blackbeard was a Doberman/German Sheperd mix. Huge dog. The kids in the neighborhood nicknamed him Blackbear. Yeah, he was that big.

It was sad, when Blackbeard died (old age). I remember getting up at dawn and starting to dig his grave. It was in the shade of the gaint oak; we both grew up under it. He loved the shade of that tree, during the hot Tennesse summers. My mother came out and started to cry. She help me dig, till it was pretty deep. She went and dragged him (Yes, he was THAT big) in a hay tarp and put him in the hole. I wanted to lift the tarp and see him one last time, but my mother didn't want me to see him. He'd been dead for some time, and probably didn't look to good. Piwackit (this particular Piwackit was a snow white cat, the size of a normal dog) walked up to the hole. He put his paw on the tarp and paused. I swear, it was as if you was working it out in his head. Then, he just looked up at us, as to say "Is he really not getting up again?" He went off by himself, while my mother and me buried Blackbeard.

Animals are alot smarter than people think. I really believe in that moment, Piwackit thought "Wow. Death."

Who was your favorite pet?

And on a lighter note: Happy Birthday to me. biggrin
