I'll start by saying that I've pulled out of the RPM challenge - instead, I am devoting my time to a tribute album to Ricky. Lots of people from the Flaming Lips messageboard (where we all hung out and met) are covering a Lips song, or submitting an original song, or just some noise collage stuff, then I'm compiling it with some artwork. Will either just make it available online, or sell them and donate the money to Ricky's family to do with as they wish - a heart charity, a college fund, it's up to them. So that's that.

I just finished watching a documentary on Sky called "How To Get What You Want". Interesting premise. Episode one was "Attraction" - should have realised that this was going to be aggravating...

Can someone explain to me what the notion of "pulling" entails? I don't understand treating the concept of treating a kiss/shag/relationship as a 'goal'... it's just something that happens, surely? When did love become a contest; a game of cat and mouse, cops and robbers, tug o' war? To my mind, two people who have a mutual interest in each other just kind of fall into it, without thinking too much about HOW they're going to do it.

If you have to use techniques to ensnare someone, that's a bit manipulative.
If you have to spend hours getting ready and looking good, that's a bit false.
If you have to tone down who you are, or be someone else, that's misleading.

And to follow on from that, when did pulling become the number one reason people go out? My father's generation used to go out with one intention: having a good time. If you get talking to a member of the opposite sex, that's fine! If it goes further, that's fine! But when did this become the sole reason for going out? It seems that people can no longer just go out for a few drinks, have a damn good laugh, and go home at the end of the night to their own bed, without feeling like there's something missing?

I guess what I'm really looking for is reassurance that I'm not the only one who thinks like this. I for one NEVER go out with the sole intention of bringing a girl home - the very idea of doing so is foreign to me. I only ever go on a night out to have a good time with my friends. That's all there is to it.

Also, this wine was fairly expensive, and it's pretty shite.

xx
