I have really neglected this place as of late! Not much to tell, really. Came back to Liverpool, and aside from a few piss-ups and a few lectures my life's pretty boring. I have a few gigs coming up though: Future Of The Left, Owl City, Adam Green, Faust (TBC), Iggy and the Stooges...
LES CLAYPOOL.
I seriously can't explain how important this is to me. I have been a Primus fan since seeing "Shake Hands With Beef" on a Viewer Choose hour on MTV2 when I was about 10 or 11. Remember when MTV2 used to be good? It also got me into the Flaming Lips with the "She Don't Use Jelly" video. Anyway, I managed to buy all their albums and EPs in a two-year period following; this was long before I had the faintest idea how to steal music off the internet. I bought Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People when it first came out, and a friend bought me the Hallucino-Genetics live DVD for my birthday. I've spent the majority of the time since (and pretty much right up until I went to university) as the only one of my friends who was into Primus... I used to sit my friends down and force them to listen to this incredible band - no-one enjoyed it. I even put a down payment on a Carl Thompson bass when he was talking of retiring without having ever played one - Les Claypool had four or five of them and that was good enough for me (as it turns out, it's the best bass I've ever played and Carl's one of the most genuine people I've met).
I know people from the US will read this and think it's strange; "Huh? Everyone's heard of Primus." Here's the thing... they never made it big in the UK. They never did anything over here. According to an old fansite, they played the UK a total of 5 times between 1987 and 2000. I don't think they've played the UK since, otherwise I would have known about it and I would have gone (anecdotal evidence I know, but it makes sense).
And after all this... I'm finally going to see Les Claypool. It's not Primus, but it's good enough for me.
I don't even care that my flatmate (who is ten years older than me, would you believe it...) is currently being the biggest cunt known to man, keeps barefacedly lying to me, treating me like a doormat and an idiot, STILL owes me last month's rent (375 which was due on the 26th), keeps making up bullshit about the bank fucking it up, caused me to go overdrawn twice within the past two months for not getting her rent to me on time (20 a time in overdraft fees, she's paying those whether or not she wants to), is basically fucking up my credit rating, and has told me today that "when she gets back today [we both went home for the Christmas period] she wants words because she's VERY angry with me." She has no idea... I'm tearing that bitch apart.
