My birthday... what a mixed bag that was.
I've had this planned for a while now... not as in like a super sweet 16, just a simple get-together; meet at the Fox in Risca at 7pm, then when Scott finishes work and gets there by 9pm we all go into town (Newport).
I'll cut a long story short... ten people turned up (one of which I had kind of written off as a mate; totally surprised me) and two other people came to town.
-Scott, who is my best mate and would never ditch me - I know this. Despite him being a dick in the past (only when he's drunk), he'd stick by me through Hell or high water.
-Healy, the one who surprised me. After a series of failed promises, and ditching me for other mates (which he did crucially on my last night at home before I went to uni) I'd written him off. He ended up proving that he's now a much better guy, and a good laugh. I'm genuinely glad he was there, which brought happiness in itself!
-Me.
I keep saying that when stuff like that happens, "I know who my friends are", but I see now how nave that is. Friends are like music - they have dynamics and although they often bring you happiness, the wrong song can make you depressed as fuck (cue me and my ex's song playing at the stroke of midnight as I turned 20 in the New Inn...)
Still, I'm all ready for Christmas. I'm finally learning to treat it all as water off a duck's back.
xx
