Been to two gigs this week...
-My Vitriol in the Liverpool Barfly on Monday. My old flatmate/coursemate Joe (my best friend in uni, damn near killed me when he left) came back for it. Support band X Certs were really good and unbelievably tight; check them out. The gig itself was blinding - loud as fuck, and true to their habit of opening with bizarre covers of modern pop songs, they started with "Hot & Cold". Played for just over an hour, closed with "Always: Your Way". No encores.
Following that, we went to the Blue Angel (aka The Raz). If you're ever in Liverpool on a Monday night, chances are you'll bump into me there. 1.50 entry, 70p a pint - it's a mythical place. Suffice to say, an amazing time was had (I'm Welsh, he's from Lancashire, hence there was much intoxication) and I don't remember how that night ended.
-Future Of The Left in the Manchester Academy last night. I turned up at the Apollo at around 7pm, sat around outside closed doors with about 20 people, on my own. After about 15 minutes of overhearing a group of Latino-sounding people chatting, sat on sleeping bags, one of them came over to me and said "Hey, you here for the Morrissey gig?" "Umm no, Future Of The Left?" After a quick check of my phone and a lot of bad language, I legged it over to the ACADEMY. Got there long before the first band anyway.
Got chatting to two guys outside, one who was clearly on something (and later stagedived to be caught by no-one, much to the chastising of Falco and Kelson) and then later a guy who was from Cardiff. He was wearing a Spiller's Records t-shirt - obvious giveaway. Gig was amazing and included some awesome new songs, Kelson hanging from the ceiling by his feet still playing the bass, Cloak The Dagger to finish which featured a lot of feedback and noise... and some guy twatting me in the back of the head, resulting in my glasses coming off and getting stepped on...
...wonderful. But well worth it for that gig.
On the way out, got chatting to this guy and a girl, who said they were walking towards the area of the coach station too. I had an hour to kill, so they took me to some club in Manchester, "The Deaf Institute" and bought me a pint. I offered to get them one, but they insisted! Never say no to a free pint.
And now I'm off out to get drunk again. Student life is amazing.
xx

Tonight I went to watch a friend play. Not very good. Worse, not significantly improved since this time last year.
