god i'm scratching good tonight. some nights are easier than others and tonight's a good one.
went down the south coast with my girl on the weekend
my dad had to put and extra 1200km's on his car before he handed it back into the leasing company or he would have to pay a shite load of tax on it, so he gave it and a bunch of cash for a good dinner and hotel room to me and mybelle (as she will be known henceforth for reasons probably only funny to me) and we headed off down south from sydney.
it's a nice car, one of these:
the highlight for me was coming around a bend somewhere of the highway south of bateman's bay, and seeing a beautiful bay with a little green shed poking out over the water, surrounded by pilons and with pelicans sitting on them, a small tuft of smoke drifted up from a log fire by.
on closer approach i saw a sign saying 3 dozen oysters for $15 bucks, turns out it was an oyster farm. i nudged awake my sleeping girlfriend as i screeched the car to a halt in a gravel road siding, spun around and headed back. it took me a few goes to find this guys drive way but i did eventually, and we proceeded to get out the car walk among piles of emtpy oyster shells, strange wooden equipment, and rusting aluminium boats, then walk for 20metres out to the end of the jetty where inside the green shed this cool old guy with a face that just has to be described as weatherbeaten, was pulling oysters from big wooden nets that were lined up on racks.
we bought a dozen opened oysters for 6 bucks and sat on the edge of the jetty and watched the pelicans and ate them. and they were still covered in sea water so that was the initial very fresh and salty taste then gradually the beautiful richness of the oyster filled the palate and left a warm satisfying aftertaste.
wish i had a digital camera......
we spent all saturday night shagging and talking in tiny little town called bermagui. the thing with mybelle is that she manages to constantly confound me. i've known her for so long and can read her moods so accurately i know exactly when she's talking shit and saying things she doesn't mean, and more often than not i'm happy to let it slide. we're not very good at communicating through words, we never have been. we understand each other better than that. it's when we play music together or make love or wonder around looking at something new or create something or hang out at the park that we're admitting what we mean to each other and how much we care. words are bullshit.
it's all quite intrguing really and i don't know where it's going. and i don't really care. the next year will be interesting.
we had a kind of three year anniversary the other day. probably only two years with time off for bad behaviour, but we can't seem to shake each other.
what's your ideal meal??
mine is a stew cooked in the middle of the bush and a fire you built yourself after a hard days walking. with crusty bread to dip in it, and served in a hot mug to cup your hands around and stare at the crackling fire and listen to the crickets and the birds and the river that's flowing past. your turn
