The thing I may hate most about living Southern California is the lack of Holiday feelings. Snow is associated with Christmas time, and where there's no snow, it just doesn't feel like Christmas is only a few weeks away. Going to the mall always invokes a slight bit of Christmas cheer, but generally that lasts only a few seconds before some middle aged, frazzled woman speeds past knocking into my shoulder with no apology. I hate crowds. Intensely. So many people all after the same things, and all unable to find them results in uppity masses and dragging, screaming children. That's no fun to be around!

I know if I had kids, I'd be singing a totally different song. I'm sure once that time comes, the spirit will be in full effect. My mum always said giving gifts to the kids is what made Christmas for her, and now I definitely see why. Though I know I'll feel a slight bit of that when Scopitone sees the fucking awesome thing I got him.

Anyway! I decided in order to get back in that happy holiday mood, I needed to watch cartoons. Christmas cartoons. And movies. But man! Where are the old ones?! I don't want to watch the Inuyasha Santa special or whatever the current cartoons are. I want to see the old ones, the ones I grew up with. I want to see the Care Bears Christmas special, and the Gloworms and the little drummer boy (even though I always hated it). I want to watch Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer along with all the other claymation specials. I even want to watch the somehow depressing Charlie Brown Christmas! So for the past few days I've been going over the shows I used to watch on VHS every year. I kept getting stuck at the one about the clockmaker and what the hell it was about, because the only thing coming to mind was that he had a big nose, everyone in the family looked alike, and something fixed his clock. Remember it? Apparently they all just got eye exams, or are on some intense drugs.

Now, please help! What Christmas cartoons and specials did you used to watch as a kid? What do you do to get into the spirit of Christmas?

Totally unrelated, my cold is pretty much over, but I've had some kind of allergic reaction, and my Disneyland Winter fun plans were canceled due to it. It's amazing how red my face currently is, and I'd give anything to make the itching stop. Work faster, Benadryl!

i always liked the claymation christmas stuff. sticks out the most. that and crashing on the floor in one room with my siblings and banging on the wall at 6am to wake the folks so they could get their coffee and tell us it's time to raid the living room. good times.
