What's new?

The vacation countdown has begun! Less than a month to go and I'm counting the seconds. Our Canadiens/Maple Leafs tickets came in the mail a couple weeks ago and I'm still geeking out about that. Susan's gonna paint a huge bedsheet banner for the game, something along the lines of "Pittsburgh loves the Habs." We'll see.

We've seen a lot of great music as of late. Bob Dylan was, of course, amazing. Not quite as stellar as the last time I saw him, but the venue was great (more concerts should be in ballparks). And really, I'll never complain about seeing Dylan live. A week after that was Sonic Youth. Amazingly, my first time seeing them live. To say they did not disappoint would be a gross understatement. Top Five Concerts Ever. Most of the set was from Rather Ripped, which isn't a great album, but sounded worlds better in a live setting. Lots of old fan favorites, too, including "Eric's Trip" (my highlight), "100%" and "Shaking Hell." God, I wish I could take a leave of absense from my job and follow them on tour for a few weeks. Then we attended the gala opening of the Pittsburgh Symphony's season. James Galway was headlining and again - a classic performance. Absolutely beautiful. But I have to say the highlight of the performance was Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," where the conductor, Bramwell Tovey of the Vancouver Symphony, took over piano duties while conducting! I've always liked Gershwin but this took my appreciation to new heights.

Random crap: I got a craptacular raise at work (perhaps this will spur me on to get those last three credits), but still, it was bigger than I expected. Not saying a whole lot. Susan and I have been performing a James Bond marathon for the past month or so, watching all of them in order. I'm such a nerd. It's all in preparation for Casino Royale, which, judging from the trailer, looks like it could be the best Bond since...hell, Dalton's first outing, or even FYEO. Again, me = nerd.

And making new friends is awesome. Susan and I have been hanging out a good bit with a DJ we met at Pittsburgh's local 'goth' night, who just started his own alternative dance set at another new venue. It's great to be able to talk music with others who share my taste, since none of my friends do. Okay, time to go listen to music before bed.

Today's lyrics: Belle & Sebastian - "Funny Little Frog"
Honey, lovin' you is the greatest thing,
I get to be myself and I get to sing,
I get to play at being irresponsible,
I come home late and love your soul,
I never forget you in my prayers,
I never have a bad thing to report.

You're my picture on the wall,
You're my vision in the hall,
You're the one I'm talking to,
When I get in from my work,
You are my girl, and you don't even know it,
I am living out the life of a poet,
I am the jester in the ancient court,
You're the funny little frog in my throat.

My eye sight's fading, my hearing's dim,
I can't get insured for the state I'm in,
I'm a danger to myself I've been starting fights,
At the party at the club on a Saturday night,
But I don't get disapproving from my girl,
She gets all the highlights wrapped in pearls.

You're my picture on the wall,
You're my vision in the hall,
You're the one I'm talking to,
When I get in from my work,
You are my girl, and you don't even know it,
I am living out the life of a poet,
I am the jester in the ancient court,
And You're the funny little frog in my throat.

I had a conversation with you at night,
It's a little one sided but that's all right,
I tell you in the kitchen about my day,
You sit on the bed in the dark changing places,
With the ghost that was there before you came,
You've come to save my life again.

I don't dare to touch your hand,
I don't dare to think of you,
In a physical way,
And I don't know how you smell,
You are the cover of my magazine,
You're my fashion tip, a living museum,
I'd pay to visit you on rainy Sundays,
And maybe tell you all about it, someday.
