clever
am I so?
to write the words that everybody knows.
if ever
I am told
you need a friend,
then here you go.
2000

Around this time of the year I like to organize myself, which really means I try to catalog some of the writing that piles up on my desk and try to make sense of the various folders on my iBook. I am, by nature, quite tidy and sensible. But lately I have had a habit of feverishly writing on a piece in the beginning, only to become distracted and forget about it. My "Working" folder is full.

But right now it's cold outside and I'm about to watch a documentary about homeless kids in Bucharest and by noon I will be crying wanting to go back there and clothe & shelter them all. Which I can't do alone. Which I would go about all wrong. And frankly, didn't I decide three times already that I am better writing, photographing and educating about such issues than heading up the NGO charities? confused

My heart bleeds. My mind aches. I am Mother Teresa, Lucinda Williams and PJ O'Rourke hyped on coffee.

OK. So here's a song I wrote once when I was in love. This is my proof that it is possible! I will not be sad... !! smile

above the wire

baby brings me rainbows each time it rains
baby youre my boy in this rocky terrain
out of place like two birds in a pet store cage
bumped my head and Im wanderin in a daze

but I am going to believe
just for now
I am going to believe in us
and tomorrow when the sun
when it comes
tomorrow when the sun comes up
I will again believe in us

they can count their worry and hold it up high
they can lay down on the ground and sigh
its an honor to forgive; I guess they dont know
the blind lead the deaf where they are dumb enough to go

so I am going to believe
just for now
I am going to believe in us
and tomorrow when the sun
when it comes
tomorrow when the sun comes up
I will again believe in us

made to fly above the wire, you look toward home
and I look up with a longing that most have never known
here for now we make a place on crowded ground
where peaceful tunes play but no one hears a sound
