Ok.. I'm pissed.
550 people in my town went to work at Tyson Foods(where chicken comes from) today and were told that they no longer had jobs. The remaining 450 were told that they were going to be "eliminated" as of Jan 31st. Merry Christmas... thanks for the hard work.
Bad Economy? Hard Times for Corporate? That's what the PR from Tyson said, and what the Radio played... but I was curious, so:
The following information was taken from Tyson's most recent Quarterly report:
"Third quarter sales were $5.90 billion compared to $1.92 billion last year."
In the three months prior to June29th of this year, Tyson sold $5,902,000,000.00 worth of product (beef, chicken, pork, prepared foods and "other"). in THREE Months!
After salaries, expenses, and overhead, Tyson Foods in that same period pulled $107(+) Million in shareholder PROFIT. But that ain't enough it seems... so Voila! Cutbacks... the salaries of 550 people (avg: $21,800/yr) will help out with the next quarter. (550 x $21,800 = $1.2Million)
Of all five segments of their operation, all but the "OTHER" category showed radical sales growth.
You can check here for yourself if you doubt...

I just wanted to make the point that this is NOT "The Economy." This is Profit over People. This is not "staying competitive within the Industry." This is maximizing profit by selling out the very people who have provided the profits to begin with. This was NOT necessary.
NOT NECESSARY.
And for the record, I just want to say that ANYONE can get information on ANY publicly traded company by going to
The SEC's website and doing an EDGAR search. Profit Margins, Earnings per share, you name it... it's the official record, and it's mandatory. So the next time they try and push that bullshit "SLOW ECONOMY" excuse you can tell them to shove it up their ass.
so FUCK Tyson Foods! And just in case anyone wants to give them grief by phone numbers are:
Media Contact: Ed Nicholson, 479-290-4591
Investor Contact: Louis Gottsponer, 479-290-4826
Or you can MAIL your chicken back(yeah you read it right) to their money-man at Corporate Headquarters. I hope it goes by truck and gets lost for a week or two before they open it. The address follows:
Louis C. Gottsponer, Jr.
