Another day of research.
Trying to finish up the Sprinzak book today, and tripping out on the amount of synergy in the world. A few posts back I mentioned Meir Kahane, Brookylnite-cum-Israeli "terroitorial maximalist" activist and founder of the Jewish Defense League (imagine Jewish "black panthers"). Well a friend of mine, Lauren Anzaldo is on the Wheels of Justice tour these days speaking to folks on current issues in the West Bank and while trying to see what she's up to these days, I did a little Google search and ended up linking to a JDL page with a bunch of vitriol about "bug-eyed Palestinians" and such. It was interesting to run into an online legacy of Kahane... especially having just found out about him and reading about a twenty year period of his activities.
The link came by way of "green Onions" which it seems all my friends have known about except me... but that shit was weird too, as I would expect the vitriol from really anything that Kahane had a hand in, but these folks were about as "committedly opposed" to phrase it in a "Fair and Balanced"TM way... Green Onions is a blog for "conservative" (in the vernacular usage of the term) people who don't really get involved to a real extent though. Armchair quarterbacks and living room politicos.
One comment: "I say we make these people (Lauren and the others on the Wheels of Justice tour) feel the fear and terror that the people of Israel feel every waking moment of their day"
That comment in particular really made me kind of laugh, even though I know that I really shouldn't find it funny. Here's an American (who probably would profess support of "the war against terrorism") writing a post suggesting that fear and terror should be forced upon another American because they disagree with them about a conflict thousands of miles away from them.... Put another way: because of that disagreement, the exercise of her "freedom of expression" should result in her being terrorized and she should be made to live in fear... that's the (il-)logic I read. I really don't know what to do with all the shit I see sometimes... where people get all worked up over shit and stop thinking logically or rationally and just kind of convince themselves that they're ultimately right and couldn't possibly be fucking wrong. I just have to laugh at it. It seems to me that CERTAINTY is about the most elusive thing to anyone who actually gives a shit about thinking things through. I suppose eschatological concerns motivate a lot of folks... but still, it confounds me when ideological certainty trumps logical inquiry. Whether or not we're the only creatures to use reason, we still have the capacity... seems like more folks should use it.
I think it was Henry Clay who once said on the Senate Floor , "I've already made my mind up about the matter, stop trying confuse me with the facts!" I just don't know what you can do with that but laugh at it. It's a dime a dozen anyway these days.
Ok... this time I mean it... back to the books. Have a great day, folks.

thank you for the comment. My cat has caused NO trouble. She is as sweet as can be. She doesn't get up in the windows. She NEVER meows. She doesn't pee everywhere. And now i'm forced to be unhappy. I know i'm making this out to be a bigger deal than it is, but i love her and it's not fair.
