So John Stewart has apparently began perpetuating his government's propaganda. Yes, i realized he was falling in line with white house rhetoric with regards to Cuba, calling Castro all sorts of things wholly unfounded. However, considering how dichomtoized, ideologically speaking, his country and Cuba are, it struck me as no surprise to see him pandering behind the other american talk-show, pop-culture icons. But when he starts calling Huga Chavez a dictator and slandering the democratically elected popular leader for things untrue but which his government happens to be guilty of (like fixing an election for instance or media censorship), the hypocricy rings clear. Jimmy Carter, a former american president and human rights advocate, went to Venezuela to witness the elections and declared their process not only to be fair but also to be one of the most democratic elections he'd ever witnessed, with polls closing as late as 3am in some states to allow everyone to actually cast their vote. Americans should take a good look at their backwards-ass electoral college and ponder the FACT that Bush stole the first election, that there likely was indeed systematic electoral fraud, and that despite their being a minute vote discrepency coupled with the counting complications, they did not see fit to have a revote before they start accusing properly democraticaly elected popular leaders of electioral fraud. John Stewart, you broke my heart. frown

Interesting debate on this topic in the comments of this journal.
Until it devolves into some flamewar about noobs.

I just looked it up after I read this and that's what I found. I haven't seen the speciific show yet.

I wonder, though, as it has happened before if this issue will be addressed on show...

I really don't have enough information to judge it anyway.
I tend to go with the "don't look to Comedy Central for real news." and the "dish it out but can't take it?" view until I actually view the piece.
But then I'm a Cynical New Yorker

Sorry you feel took.
